Andy ( my cousin ) is publishing a book and is donating some of the proceeds to support the walk – please see below for more details
Training
Not only did we have a fun time with Kelly on Tuesday evening, she proved incredibly helpful to those of us that were there. Kelly will send out separately notes from the evening and I’d encourage you to make the most of Kelly’s enthusiasm and expertise by making contact with her if you have any queries.
Kelly_gk@hotmail.com My main learning from the evening was the importance of strengthening the core in order to prevent injury rather than just building stamina through cardio-vascular exercise ie do some lunges, squats and press ups as well as running etc.
PR
Please find attached a guide which has been developed for us by Consolidated PR who are helping us with the walk. You’ll see there are contact details for you to get further advice should you want to make a press release. For our September meeting I will give some thought to generic content and overall approach with a view to encouraging as many of us as possible to make something happen. However don’t let this stop you doing something in the meantime if you think that’s appropriate. We’re still planning on getting at least one national piece of PR.
Andy’s book
Andy is my cousin. Our grandmother had 5 children, 4 of whom died prematurely, including my mum( Hannah ) and Andy’s mum ( Margaret ). In their memory my family is supporting me in the walk and this is one of Andy’s contributions. As you will see from the attached details Andy is a passionate football supporter and this year followed the FA Cup by starting off with his local team of Chertsey Town and then following the winners all the way through to Portsmouth lifting the cup at Wembley. He created a blog which generated 36,000 hits from 93 countries and has been approached by a publisher to produce the book in August. As you will see from the note, Andy has a really nice style of writing together with an interesting idea and I think the book could be quite successful. Andy is now looking for a sponsor so if you know any individuals or organisations who are passionate about football and would like to get publicity and promote the FA Cup, then please do get in touch with either Andy
andy_ollers@ntlworld.com or myself. Post the walk, when the book has been published, it might be a good thing to promote to all the people who have supported our adventure ( it would make a very attractive Christmas present for the right sort of person ! )
Update on our charities
On Tuesday Paul (Samajam School), Simon ( The Rainbow Trust ) and Terry ( The Barchester Foundation ) reminded us of why they are passionate about the charities that they are individually supporting. Jackie, who unfortunately was too poorly on Tuesday night to be there, is also supporting her local dance charity which does great things with local children. Do please take the opportunity to ask any one of these about the charities they are supporting. We are of course also supporting Macmillan ( Sally is thinking about an event at Fidelity to specifically raise funds for them and both Steve’s charity ball and Nick’s rugby tournament will give 50% of their funds to Macmillan ).
In terms of Afrikids, Sally and the team continue to be great partners and I’d encourage you to look at the following:
